Philips MC235 Thin Stereo Microsystem

Philips MC235 Thin Stereo Microsystem Review

This is a great stereo for a great price- I am very pleased with it and I found that most of the reviews here were very useful and accurate.

One thing that I was not expecting but that you should be aware of before purchasing is that the volume changes in preset intervals and there is a big gap between the lowest audible setting and mute - so that if you enjoy listening to music/radio very softly, such as when you fall asleep, you may wish to consider a different system or set it up in an adjacent room. (I lean books up against the speakers when needed)

Philips MC235 Thin Stereo Microsystem Feature

  • Thin-profile CD stereo microsystem with stand; 9.84 x 9.64 x 3.78 inches (W x H x D)
  • Digital sound control offers optimal, jazz, rock, techno, pop, and classic settings
  • Digital dynamic bass boost enhances bass at low, mid, and high volumes
  • Includes AM/FM tuner; compatible with CD-RW format
  • 10-watt speaker system (5 watts x 2); wall mountable

Philips MC235 Thin Stereo Microsystem Overview

Trendy and unique innovation and style appeals to you. And so will the vividly chic MC235 with dynamic sound performance packed in a sleek design that can also be wall mounted.

Philips MC235 Thin Stereo Microsystem Specifications

There's no rule that stereo systems have to be big and bulky, as this trendy microsystem from Philips aptly proves. The wall-mountable MC235 is a mere 3.78 inches thick--bigger than a credit card but far smaller than the average CD player and speaker combo. Yet the system still packs dynamic audio performance inside its narrow body, with such features as digital sound control and digital dynamic bass boost (DDBB). The former invites the user to choose between different sound settings, including optimal, jazz, rock, techno, and classic, and then automatically adjusts the sound balance and frequencies to create the most favorable setup for the chosen music style. DDBB, on the other hand, enhances the bass at low, mid, and high volumes to deliver rich, deep sounds, an important consideration for a small system such as this.

A closer look at the microsystem reveals that the CD spins vertically to save space. The thin profile also includes a digital AM/FM tuner and two detachable 5-watt speakers that can mount individually or stay attached to the entire unit. The CD player, which is compatible with CD-RW discs in addition to traditional audio CDs, offers all the normal CD functions, such as search, repeat, shuffle, and programming. Additional features include both sleep and wakeup timers and an Eco mode that conserves power when the unit is in standby.

What's in the Box
Main unit, two speaker boxes, remote control (with battery), AM loop antenna, FM wire antenna, stand, screw and plug assembly, user's manual.

Sony DHC-MD555 Executive Microsystem

Sony DHC-MD555 Executive Microsystem Review

It's a nice box with sad speakers. They sound nice, butseriously, 25 watt per channel? That is pretty low. My computersystem puts out much and it was a Cambridge Sub System mixed with Aiwa sats, , total. this thing is around 200 and gives the same sound. Go figure. If you want a small, office box, okay. If you want real sound (if you have the cash), buy this and then buy some real speakers to go with this awesome changer combo box. That would be a good deal. END

Sony DHC-MD555 Executive Microsystem Feature

  • Desktop CD/minidisc/tuner system
  • 5-disc minidisc changer
  • 5-disc elevator-style CD changer
  • CD Text display with compatible CDs
  • 25 watts per channel

Sony DHC-MD555 Executive Microsystem Overview

With the ability to store five CDs and five minidiscs simultaneously, this mini system will never leave you out in the cold when it's time for a change. Throw in CD Text for easy artist and track identification (with compatible CDs) and a stellar 25 watts per channel amplifier power, and the Sony DHC-MD555 shows its colors as a real gem of a sound system.

This desktop system also offers tape, tuner, and analog inputs for other sources, such as a VCR or MP3 player. To assist you in sculpting the sound to your taste, the DHC-MD555 comes with a five-band equalizer, bass boost, and 10 preset equalization curves. A nine-band spectrum analyzer, which represents the music visually in real time, shows you which portions of the frequency spectrum are most--or least--active. (It also looks cool.)

CD Text displays disc and track names for compatible CDs and also automatically enters disc names into a Custom File Memory without requiring you to type in the information. A feature called play exchange lets you change four CDs, even while a fifth one plays. The DHC-MD555 also has a Disc Memo display, which lets you assign an alphanumeric name for your discs; names display on the front panel while a disc is playing.

Synchro Recording simplifies making cassettes or minidiscs from CDs. When the CD player goes into play mode, Synchro Recording automatically releases from record/pause mode. When you record a minidisc, you can name the disc and each individual track using the system's jog dial. Your names will appear in the front panel of your own system and in the panels of other compatible minidisc players.

Sony's exclusive Highly Oriented Polyolefine is a speaker-cone material of extraordinary strength. According to Sony, the material is up to 30 times more rigid, per unit weight, than polypropylene, giving you a woofer of low distortion and extraordinary transient response with great high-frequency extension.

Sony CMT-EP313 Executive Microsystem with Single CD Player

Sony CMT-EP313 Executive Microsystem with Single CD Player Review

i bought this after owning the hundred dollar systems of phillips, rca, emerson and jvc. i had thought i would have to endure the annual trip to walmart for another cd player .
i decided to try sony in the same price range. i wanted a changer as the thought of a single disc player didnt appeal to me but the budget at the time was limited and i liked the wood grain speakers that didnt look like a space ship decoration. i took a chance after all they only last a year right? wrong , its two years old , sounds better than my daughters thousand dollar system. i love it everyone who visits loves it and i bought one for my office as it fits in small spaces like the third one i bought for my rv. and the kids like it as i bought two more for grandkids off to college. there arent many products i endorse to friends and have a sony clock radio im not thrilled with due to tinny sound but this system is awesome. by the way ive never fiddled with the clock or settings and could now afford a higher priced unit but when you find something this good who cares about price or clocks i play rod stewarts classic love songs and he is in the room.if it quits today ill buy another just like it.

RCA RS2600 5-CD Executive Microsystem

RCA RS2600 5-CD Executive Microsystem Review

I bought this unit as a replacment to another five-disc changer that was absoulte junk. What I found to be the most useful was simply the player's ability to read virtually any CD format: from regular manufactured CDs to MP3 burns. I've found that CD players that have difficulty reading the data stamped on the disc seem to be "cheap" somehow. The speakers of the unit are another great attribute. They fill the room nicely and provide the listener with a good range of sound. The bass boost is excellent and the surround speakers are also a lot of fun. Finally, the dual tape deck came in handy even though tapes are obsolete nowadays. Its fun to record songs off the radio and the cassete/recording playback certainly meets my standards. To sum it up, this is an ideal system for the casual music fan who just wants to hear good, quality sound.

RCA RS2600 5-CD Executive Microsystem Feature

  • 5-CD changer with radio and cassette player/recorder
  • Stereo and satellite surround speakers with 10 watts per channel (x2) for clear sound
  • Audio CD, CD-R, and CD-RW compatible with shuffle and repeat CD playback
  • FM/AM tuner with 32 presets and auto preset tuning
  • Includes full-function remote control

RCA RS2600 5-CD Executive Microsystem Overview

This 10-watts-per-channel stereo will enliven an office, bedroom, or living room. Listen to favorite radio stations, a cassette tape, or a CD (including audio CD-R or CD-RW). With its five-disc CD changer, you can listen to an endless variety of music without interruption and create a different listening experience by randomly playing tracks from one or multiple CDs.

The system's digital FM-AM stereo is outfitted with 32 station presets. The unit automatically scans the FM band and sets presets to the best tunable stations. The dual-well cassette offers continuous play (deck A to deck B), one-touch recording, automatic tape shutoff, and automatic level control for making distortion-free copies from CD and radio. Assigned equalization curves let you adjust the sound to personal preference (choose from classic, jazz, rock, pop, and manual settings), and bass boost heightens the impact of low frequencies. You'll also enjoy the convenience of a 24-button remote control, which makes it easy to adjust sound settings from across the room.

Other features include CD repeat play and intro scan. Clock, sleep, and alarm functions add to the system's uses. You can wake to a favorite CD, radio station, or cassette tape, and set the sleep alarm for up to 90 minutes.

Sony CMTHP7 Executive Microsystem

Sony CMTHP7 Executive Microsystem Review

I bought this system for my wife 4 years back for < 150$. It has been working great so far. Sony is horrible for its slot loading CD changers. I have the DC-7 home theater system from Sony and it always hangs while loading CDs or DVDs.
But this guy has not given any problems. It looks great with its silver finish. And the best thing is the sound is great for its size. I have in my living room and it is great for back-ground music. The two speakers are good enough for a system this price.

Plus it has optical out connection, so you can always use it as a transport to connect to a DAC for your HiFi experience.

Overall, excellent system for the price.

Sony CMTHPX9 Microsystem

Sony CMTHPX9 Microsystem Review

I will make this short and sweet--this stereo is made very well;the sound is very good--perfect for your bedroom(which is where mine is)I really do not find any faults with this unit--I love the tape player being placed on top-makes it very easy to load and unload cassettes--also will be very easy to clean the tape heads--the access door simply slides back to insert tape--i hate those players with those "full logic" cassette players in them--every stereo ever had--those cassette doors break-either ya can't open em or they get stuck. No way this will happen on this unit--the only flaw in this unit is tape is not auto-reverse. I was very pleased with how good the tape player sounded--had some very old cassettes that sounded very good--had not been played in long long time-still great quality.
The tuner works well AM and FM--I don't listen to radio unless bad weather is around so tuner really does not matter to me.
It is more than adequate though.
The CD Player is very good--was surprized that it played all my homemade cd's--even my MP3's-flawless reproduction-just can't get over how good this unit sounds and i am older(54)person--have been involved with music most of my life and for the money-ya simply ain't going to get any better deal for the money--as a matter of fact about a week or two later;I went and purchased another one to put on the porch to listen to on those summer afternoons when the grill is on and friends are over. It even sounds good on the porch-it will produce good sound at higher levels also-with no clipping either.
The one I put in the bedroom; I also have my VCR/DVD Player run through the AUX Inputs--sounds great--the only thing I did was to add a couple of speakers to it for a better bass response for the movie soundtracks(Sony Speakers---SS-MB350H-another good product from Sony--they are killer for their cost also--3-way with 8 inch woofer--but that is another story) needless to say am set for the bedroom now.
The system also looks very well--I can't stand the systems with all the stupid lights and junk on them-give me just the plain solid look anyday.
I do not believe they are even making this model anymore so pick ya one up if you happen to see one somewhere-you won't be sorry.
One more thing--this unit is not very light in weight and will fit well on top of the bookcase but not in it. It is pretty long (the main power unit)--another plus is you can lock the cd module when and if you wish to move it.
If you have small children--keep them awy from this unit--the cd tray actually ejects itself out and does a little flip vertical to insert the cd's--this may be easy to mess up or break if not carefull with it.
Ya'll Take care and Happy Holidays
Michael
